What to know before applying for your visa
Choosing the right route is half the job
Not all visas serve the same purpose. The entrepreneur route requires an innovative project and a favourable report; the investor route starts from an investment already made; the digital nomad route asks for a contract or clients outside Spain; and the work route depends on a specific job offer from a Spanish company. Choosing the wrong route is the most common reason a file drags on for months or is refused.
That is why we always start in the same place: your nationality, your current situation, your income, who is coming with you and how soon you need to be here. With that we tell you which route fits, what documents you will need and what timeline is realistic.
Paperwork: what is asked for in almost every case
Each route has its own requirements, but there is a core set that appears in practically every file and is worth preparing from day one, because legalising and translating documents is what takes the most time.
- Valid passport covering the whole intended stay
- Criminal record certificate from your country or countries of residence, legalised or apostilled
- Health insurance with full cover in Spain
- Proof of sufficient financial means for you and your family
- Sworn translation of any document not issued in Spanish
From visa to residency: what comes next
Getting the visa does not close the process. Once in Spain you must apply for the foreigner identity card, register where required and meet the renewal deadlines, which depend on the route you came in through. Missing a renewal can force you to start again from scratch.
We stay with you for that part too: renewals, changes of status — from student to employee, from employee to self-employed — reunification of family members arriving later and, when the time comes, the long-term residency application.

Questions about Spanish visas and residency
How long does a Spanish visa take?
It depends on the route and on the body handling the file. Applications processed by the unit specialising in entrepreneurs, investors, transfers and digital nomads are usually resolved in weeks; those going through a consulate or immigration office take longer. In the initial study we give you the estimated timeline for your specific case and flag what can delay it, above all legalising documents abroad.
Do I need to be in Spain to apply for residency?
Some routes allow you to apply while already in Spain lawfully, even during a tourist stay, and others require applying for the visa at the consulate in your country of residence. This is one of the first things we settle with you, because switching routes halfway costs time and money.
Can my family be included in the same application?
Yes. The entrepreneur, investor, digital nomad and intra-company transfer routes allow you to include your spouse or partner and dependent children in the same application, and in certain cases dependent ascendants too. Preparing the family file in parallel avoids repeating translations and legalisations later on.
How much investment does the investor visa require?
The thresholds and eligible categories have changed in recent years and some routes that once gave access no longer do. Before you commit any capital we review which categories are still open and which fit your plan. If what you want is to buy into a Spanish company, we work on it together with our investment and company acquisition services.
Do you work in other languages?
Yes. We work in Spanish, English, French, Chinese and Arabic, and we coordinate the sworn translations and the apostilles or legalisations each document requires depending on where it was issued.
What can I do if my visa is refused?
A refusal can be appealed within the deadline, but in many cases the most effective way forward is not to insist on the same route but to reframe the application under the one that actually fits. We review the decision, explain the specific reason for refusal and tell you frankly whether appealing or reapplying is worth it.
